PVC Clean out for Vitreous Clay Building Sewer for Drain Cleaning

CALLAWAY Plumbing and Drains Ltd. was contracted to drain clean the building sewer due to a back up, however we did not not find any access points to drain clean from.  We put our camera down the 4″ cast iron vent pipe from the roof top to locate the pipe and also found a heavy amount of tree roots in the old vitreous clay pipe.  We recommended installing a clean out access outside so we could drain clean properly and make sure the entire line was free of roots.  CALLAWAY Plumbing and Drains Ltd. excavated and installed a new PVC clean out, we then drain cleaned the line several times with our power snake with a 3″ and 4″ cutter blades, and flushed with water to remove the tree roots within the line,  upon drain cleaning we then viewed the vitreous clay line with our camera to ensure there were no breaks and all the tree roots were removed.  The tree roots that penetrated the line had entered through the joint of the vitreous clay pipe, this is the normal entry point as each connection was made with an insertion of the pipe end into a bell end then mortared.  CALLAWAY Plumbing and Drains Ltd. then informed to the homeowners there were a couple of options from here 1. To maintain the vitreous clay pipe with drain cleaning every 12-18 months or 2. Excavate the line and replace with new PVC pipe.
